In Mid-2020 Charles Avison partnered with veteran Detroit radio host, James Flanagan, to produce a show which explores the City of Champions story. 92 episodes have been recorded as of April 5th, 2023. Episodes are broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube every week with each episode archived to all streaming platforms.

Exploring the remarkable series of events which took place in 1935-36. Author Charles Avison has discovered a previously unknown chapter in the history of Detroit Sports. The rise of Joe Louis, three major as well as 30 "minor" sports championships-all during the same season! For the first time, the "City of Champions" story is chronicled from beginning to end. Stitched together with newspaper articles as well as over 315 photos-few of which have been seen since 1935-36.

Continuing the research into the forgotten "City of Champions" story, author Charles Avison asks the question: "Who were the players from 1935-36?"

 

The first of a two-part series focuses on the rise of Joe Louis and seeks to make the case that his exploits should be regarded as: "The greatest individual season in American sport history." The book also explores the remarkable 1934-35 Tigers who emerged from a decade of mediocrity to inspire a generation of Detroit fans that needed heroes more than at any other time in their history.

Concluding the research into "The Players" of 1935-36, the final book of the City of Champions Trilogy focuses on the Lions, Red Wings, Gar Wood and Walter Hagen. As well, an extensive look at original memorabilia relating to the party at the Masonic Temple on April 18th 1936.

 

Each copy includes a dvd style collectors box to fit all three City of Champions books.
